Terms of use

Plain terms for a free tool. Using RealityCheck means accepting what follows.

Not financial advice

RealityCheck is a decision-support tool, not financial advice. RealityCheck performs arithmetic on figures you supply, under assumptions you can see and change. It does not know your tax position, your job security, your health, your family obligations or your plans, and it cannot account for them.

Nothing here constitutes investment, tax, legal or financial advice, and no output should be treated as a recommendation to buy, borrow, rent or sell. For advice specific to your circumstances, consult a qualified professional.

Accuracy

The calculations are deterministic and the formulas are documented, but results depend entirely on the inputs and assumptions used. Default values for interest rates, insurance, maintenance, resale value, appreciation and investment returns are illustrative starting points, not quotations or forecasts.

Tax treatment, subsidies and regulatory limits are not modelled. Actual costs offered to you by a lender, dealer or seller will differ.

No warranty

The service is provided as is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, no liability is accepted for any loss arising from use of, or reliance on, this tool.

Acceptable use

You may use RealityCheck freely for personal decision-making and share links to results. Do not present its output as professional advice, or as an endorsement of any product, lender or seller.

Changes

The calculators, default assumptions and scoring model may change as they are improved. A share link encodes the inputs rather than the result, so a link opened after a model change may produce a slightly different score.
